FLICK PICTURE SHOW REVIEW: Southland Tales
Southland Tales. As in Tales from Southern California, but a discrete California, where Dwayne “The Stagger” Johnson is an deed prominent turned soothsayer, Justin Timberlake is a seasoned of Iraq, Sean-William Scott is truly a pair of twins, and Sarah Michelle-Gellar is a porn top named Krysta Now. “No-one rocks the cock like Krysta Now.” Or so we’re told. You never in point of fact see her rocking the cock, and she is more than welcome.
But the picture doesn’t examine and pander to the type of audience who necessity to woo a flash of tits. Indeed, it doesn’t pander to anyone. It is past paralytic and away the most experiential flick to be relevant to out of Hollywood recently, if you discount David Lynch.
Initial of all, the film view of Southland Tales is in fact chapters four, five and six. Hey if Star Wars did it… The senior three chapters are found in the Southland Tales accurate novel, which indeed makes more sense in itself and of the mist as a unscathed, explaining the numerous theories behind the blear, whereas the coat itself drops the audience in the midst of a far-out that is without a doubt removed from the one we live out in.
There is wi-fi liveliness known as Indefinite Karma, a screenplay written while directed the influence of drugs that foretells the Uninterruptedly Of Days, and some freaky loiter again and again travelling. So, the whole shooting match you would think from the brains behind Donnie Darko.
The film is a tousle, but an gripping one. Share of the separated thread is vexed with the conundrum that is the Book Of Revelations found in the Bible, and you could examination this as its in fashion cinematic counterpart. Some see Revelations as a puzzle to be solved, containing a code to be dissected. Richard Kelly’s film is stressful to press this, using the graphic novel and the film’s website to further the tidings and the baffling plotlines within, quite precisely forcing the audience to actively seek it to, or, as most people did, ambulate out of the cinema.
While this cross-media, story/puzzle feeling is a confident stir, the film should stand on its own legs, which, despondently, it does not. It’s preternatural and wonderful, annoying and infuriating, littered with massive performances and godawful ones. It intent no doubt follow Darko in fit a cult veil, specifically on watch series online weeds.
We do not recommend seeing this film, but you fundamental to see it. It is the method less travelled.
